Calli was left outside the SPCA before being adopted. She is not my dog, but I know her owner well. She even had a DNA test done but it only came back with golden retriever and nothing else. We are pretty sure she is not a purebred because she is taller, bigger, and has more coarse fur than a golden retriever. Also, the shape of her head is not like a golden retriever. The last picture shows her compared to the purebred behind. |

| The idea behind GreatMutts.com is to create a web site that allows people to do what they always do when they see a mutt: try to guess which breeds the mutt has in him/her. | | So for each profile you can make multiple breed picks. Then we take your picks and add them to the rest of the GreatMutts.com community and come up with a consensus as to what that dog's heritage is. The profiles are people's own dogs and dogs from various adoption sites. So feel free to add a profile of either type. | | If you want to comment on the mutt navigate to the Mutt Discussion Page. To see how others voted click on the See How People Voted link. | | Share |

So you've read the mutt's profile and are now ready to cast your vote on what makes up the mutt. To make your picks follow these easy steps: -
Register and then log-in. (GreatMutts.com will not send you spam, resell or use your email for any other purpose so there is no pain to registering!) -
After you've logged in, you will see that the breed selection boxes are now enabled. -
Highlight the breeds that you think make up the dog from the "Available Breeds" list on the right. If you hold the CTRL key you can select more than one at a time. Click the ">" button to add the breeds to the "Your Picks" box. (If ever you make a mistake just use the "<" to remove a breed from the "Your Picks" box) -
Repeat steps #3 & #4 until all the breeds you want are in the "Your Picks" box. You can pick as many breeds as you like. -
Click the "Submit Your Picks" button. -
CONGRATULATIONS - you have voted to help pawsitively identify the dog's breed!!

Gracie was adopted from Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, MA after being rescued by Old Fella Burke County Rescue in Waynesboro, GA. (Where she'd been left tied up in a good samaritan's backyard.) She is about 9 months old and weighs 15lbs. She stands about 15 inches at the shoulder. EVERYONE has a different opinion on what breed/s she is. She definitely has some kind of coursing hound in her (either Saluki or Whippet) because of her sleek build. Her face looks almost Papillion or spaniel-esque. She can run very fast and jump high, but prefers sleeping on the couch. She's a great dog with a sweet disposition. We love her! I'm considering getting the genetic test kit for her because we spend so much time debating her heritage with total strangers. |

Hi my name is Destiny, and I am the proud owner of the cutest dog I will ever lay my eyes on. It all started when I tried convincing my dad to let me get a mini pig. I wanted to be different and knowing that I was vegetarian it made even more sense. After putting our deposit it and I was very excited we all knew we had to wait until March. Only two days passed by until it felt like forever until I would get my little piggie. Then my dad called and said there was no way we could get it cause they will ruin our backyard. I was crushed from all the anticipation I had already put in for this pig. My mom seeing that I was so upset demanded me to get dressed because we were going to the pound. At first, I really did not want to, I was hooked on the mini pig. As I was getting ready though I thought of all the animals that are killed when they are not adopted and I knew that the pig I just gave up would never be put down and that he would be in a better suited home. So getting more excited I hurried to get ready, but then my mom told me she had to drop by an old friends birthday party. The whole party I just wanted to get to the pound thinking of all the dogs that were stuck in the cage and I thought the less amount of time it has to stay in the cage the better. After asking if we could go for the eighth time we finally left. Getting to the pound I could feel me heart speeding up. And once we were escorted to the cages I knew that I wasn't leaving without a new best friend. Looking through all the cages it was hard for me to just pick one I wanted to take them all home, but once I got the end of the row I saw the red, long haired scared dog sitting by the front of the cage. She was not barking she just looked at me and I immediately asked the lady if I could see her. Once she was out of the cage she just walked with me and when I went to pet her she just fell on her back and wanted me to pet her belly.I knew I was taking her home and after i got my moms approval I hugged my new stinky, dirty best friend. She is the perfect dog for me and I could not of asked for a better pet. I love her so much and it is evident that every person she comes in contact with people fall in love with her. |

Oakley is a 10 week old puppy we adopted from a shelter, he is extremely smart and very attached to us. He has green eyes and a very long tail that curls up.His fur is very short and he has white socks and a white tip on his tail. He has a number of different colors on him and had a speckled belly, paw pads, and inside of his mouth. We were told his Mom was a Great Pyrenees but he doesn't look like one. He is growing very big, very fast! We would love to know what breeds he is so we know more about how big he may get. |

Cooper is nearly six months old and weighs about 25 or so pounds. He is very energetic and can run extremely fast, but also has his calm moments where he lays around or sits in someone's lap. He has a strong tendency to chew on things, whether this is just a puppy phase that he'll grow out of or part of his personality, I'm not sure. He is definitely part beagle, and displays some of their characteristics, such as his howl, his protectiveness (barking at everything that walks by the house), his running out the front door whenever he can, his many attempts to steal food from people, etc. He also has some less beagle-like tendencies, such as his extreme energy (even for a puppy), and his really astonishing speed. I've been thinking his other half may be something similar to greyhound or whippet, because of his speed, and because he does have the deep chest and thin waist of those dogs. He also has a very long, curved tail. Any ideas on his breed would be greatly welcomed.
I'll put up some pictures of his body when I can get them- it's hard to get him to keep still long enough for a good one. |

Meet D. She is about 2 years old and we adopted her from the local humane society when she was still a pup. She is a carefree, friendly and faithful daughter to my boyfriend and me. With some research, our best conclusion is that she is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix? Most importantly... WE LOVE OUR MUTT!! |

Everyone loves Peter. He's affectionate, vocal, an excellent lookout and protector. Keeps one eye out the window, monitoring the perimeter most of the time. Notifies us of any activity either with barking or with breathy half-barks. Very smart! Seems to understand English -- even words (or sentences!) we haven't taught him! He's gentle... only bites the vet :) Impeccable squirrel radar. Stubborn streak. Shy with dogs and people at first, but warms up quickly for the most part. Barks at newcomers and trespassers of all species. Squeals and squeaks like a little girl when happy (when we come home, when we let him out, when he's playing with his sister or best friend...) He doesn't care for the heat and resists walking in it. Enjoys ball games and chase, but loses interest pretty quickly, almost seems too intelligent for repetitive games like fetch. He does well with hide-n-seek, and "find it" type games. Likes to chew on sticks, steal tomatoes and lemon balm leaves from the garden. Follows us around, by our side whenever possible. Never chooses to be alone. Especially affectionate in the mornings, when he nestles right up next to us for our last hour of sleep, and readily accepts belly rubs. A master at catching flies if one should get into the house. Weighs about 20lbs. |

Playful, athletic, affectionate, strongly bonded with her human mom, pretty good listener (not perfect). Snuggly. Likes to be under blankets or in the direct sun. Sometimes willful and pushy especially where attention and play are concerned. Always needs to be the center of attention. At the dog park, she is the life of the party. Everyone is happy to see her coming because it means everyone is going home tired. :) Chase is her favorite game, both as the chaser and the chased. She is smaller than she looks in the photos. Only about 14lbs. She's a great dog, and she has us wrapped around her scrappy little paw. |

This is my family friend's dog that is about 8 years old now. She was adopted from the SPCA several years back as a stray and nobody knew what breeds she was. She is a solid black colour with long fur like a collie and sheds a lot. They have never done a DNA test on her but she is likely a lab/German shepherd/collie cross. The SPCA also found her mother which is most likely a German Shepherd purebred. She is very protective which leads to the theory that she may even have a bit of wolf mixed in. Guess away? |

Was told she was a lab/collie. got her at Spca at 1 1/2 years old. She is CRAZY! She is hyper all the time...chases things around the house, picks up random objects and shakes them wildly and jumps on anyone who approaches wildly licking them and wagging her whole back end. She needs a lot of exercise and attention. Her favorite thing at the park is to chase other dogs (endlessly) or mouth with them. With any new dog (or sometimes cat) that she meets she sticks her front legs way out bowing her head and springs around them from that position and back again trying to coax them into playing (she usually succeeds). And she has a giant collection of sticks she's picked up on our walks. To describe her I would call her GOOFY and ALWAYS HAPPY.
She is smaller than a lab, as well as more lean, shapely and athletic looking. Weighs about 45 lbs. Not a water lover. I generally get comments that she looks like a young puppy rather than a two year old. She has a longer, flat and shiny coat with feathering at the neck, legs, and tail in the winter that sheds a huge amount of undercoat in May. In winter she looks like a flat coat, in summer more like a small lab. |

We adopted Buddy almost 3 weeks ago, at just over 4 months old. One of the pictures below is his 8 wk old picture from his foster mom. We've been told that he's a beagle mix, as was his mom (dad unknown). The link below is his mom, which may give more insight as to breed. He was 18 lbs at his 4 month checkup, so will probably end up being about 35-40 lbs full grown. Now at almost 5 months he stretches out on our queen sized bed and is almost able to reach completely across the bed.
Nobody that has met Buddy sees any beagle in him. He doesn't have beagle ears, they're always flipping backwards. He doesn't have the face or head shape, and is much taller than a beagle. He's also mostly black, and doesn't really have beagle coloring. But there's definitely hound or some sort of tracking dog in him, as he's always walking with his nose on the ground.
He can be very active, but also likes to get his resting time. He is super-fast chasing after a ball in the back yard. He's also a huge chicken, and is scared of just about everything.
We've gotten many guesses as to his mix, including: lab, boxer, jack russell, border collie, american foxhound, you name it. |

We have just adopted our first puppy from a sheltered adult female corgi-mutt-mix who had a litter while she was homeless. Her name is Molly and she's the cutest thing that walks on four legs on this planet. At least we think she is. =) Molly is currently 13 weeks old at the time of writing this "About" section (5/29/10), and she has a playful and fun temperament.
The primary reason we are signing up ourselves and Molly for this online community is so that we can learn as much as we possibly can about the breed and read posts from all you knowledgeable breeders/trainers/etc with much more experience than we currently have so that we can understand what other Corgi owners believe to be the best ways to approach obedience training, disciplining, how to praise good behavior and punish bad behavior properly, all that important stuff!
However, I must say again that our dog was an adopted/near-rescue puppy and not purchased from a breeder, therefore we have little to no idea what she is actually a MIX of -- We have been told she's a Corgi/Lab, then a Corgi/Shiba Inu, then something else mixed with Corgi that still didn't make much sense. Our big goal at the moment is to post some photos of Molly, have you fine people look them over, and give us some educated feedback/guesses on what the most likely latter 50% of her mixed breed actually is! I don't believe she's got ANY Labrador in her because her paws are too small and her snout is shaped differently than you'd see on a lab...anyway I hope someone can help us get a better idea of what mix of breeds she probably is. Thanks everyone!
I have:
